About Me
Justine Short, L.A.C
I still remember the first time I saw an acupuncture needle.
When I was a kid my Dad came home with a needle stuck in his forehead. (Back in the day, you could keep a needle in for 24 hours.) I thought it was so cool that these little tiny needles could help somebody feel better, that you could heal without needing medication. Even at that young age I knew there was something so amazing about the power of those little needles to make a difference in your health.
My passion for helping people lead me to become an acupuncturist myself, and I've been in clinical practice since 2010. I studied many other advanced techniques so that I can get the best results possible for my clients. I've studied everything from facial rejuvenation and maya abdominal massage to zero balancing and reiki. I'm also a certified acupuncture detoxification specialist.
"It's the connection I feel with my patients that means the most to me..."
The power of acupuncture to heal our minds and bodies is what motivated me to do this work, but it's the connection that I feel with my patients when they know they're being heard and seen for who they are that means the most to me. I love to help my patients let go of old patterns and pain that doesn't serve them so that they can be free, so that they can be themselves.
If my years of experience have taught me anything, it's this: who you are is perfect.
There can be so many obstacles in the way that prevent you from feeling that way, and that's where my work comes in. Acupuncture helps to not only remove the blocks in your energy and organ systems that create physical illness, but it also helps to address the emotional roots of the disharmony. I treat you as a whole person---mind, body, and spirit.
A Story: Maori Healing
I am fascinated by Christine Hibbard's retelling of an incident that occurred during her travels to New Zealand. She was invited to a "sacred, reservation-like community of the Maori Polynesian culture." When she asked about the medicine used for healing in the community, the response she received was "If a person was sick in any way, from a cold to cancer, they would call the entire community and all gathered round, including the children. They’d position the ill person in the center and the community would sit. This physician would ask the person one question and one question only: “What is it that you are not saying?” They would all sit and wait for days until this person revealed all of what he or she was keeping to him or herself." The cure rate was 98%. To heal "...they were using their own innate wisdom, their own inner guidance and the power of full self-expression, that is, emotional truth, intellectual truth and its interconnectedness."
